Summer Residence

Summer residence is available from May to August. Stay for the full session or for a shorter-term of at least 4 weeks. There is no minimum academic course load to stay in summer residence.

Summer residents enjoy the convenience of living a short walk from classes and other amenities during the beautiful summer months on campus. Residence life activities provide opportunities for residents to engage with their peers and help them feel at home in a safe, fun, and inclusive community.

Vaccine Requirements

The University has not yet finalized the vaccine requirement to be on campus for the spring and summer 2022. If you plan on living in Residence, prepare to be vaccinated to be on campus for summer. More information about current vaccine requirements can be found here.



  • University of Toronto students enrolled in a full-time degree program. For the Summer session, there is no minimum course load requirement.
  • Students from a visiting post-secondary institution enrolled in a full-time degree program that are studying or working on a co-op term in Toronto for the summer.


Important dates

  • Applications open: February 22, 2022 on the StarRez Portal
  • Application deadline if you are requesting specific housemates: March 31, 2022
  • Shorter-term stays (minimum 4 weeks): Apply at least two weeks prior to your requested move-in date
  • Final day to submit a Summer application (Shorter-term stays): July 15, 2022
  • Move In Period: May 6 to 8, 2022 by appointment
  • Final day to move in (Shorter-term stays): July 22, 2022
  • Move Out Day: August 25, 2022 by 12:00pm or as stated in your application


Application instructions for University of Toronto students

  1. Log in to the StarRez Portal.
  2. Select the Applications tab, and click on the UTSC summer application.
  3. Complete the application, which includes e-signing the Summer Residence Agreement.
  4. Upon receiving an offer in the StarRez Portal, submit the non-refundable $250.00 deposit by credit card. Visa Debit cards are not accepted.


Application instructions for visiting post-secondary students

  1. Email us with your name, post-secondary institution, and copy of your current student ID card. We will provide you instructions for accessing the Portal to submit your application.
  2. Log in to the StarRez Portal.
  3. Select the Applications tab, and click on the UTSC summer application.
  4. Complete the application, which includes e-signing the Summer Residence Agreement.
  5. Upon receiving an offer in the StarRez Portal, submit the non-refundable $250.00 deposit by credit card. 


Transition Period for Current Winter 2022 residents

Students living in residence for the Winter 2022 session are eligible to request to stay for the transition period between the Winter and Summer sessions for an additional cost. Only students registered for both sessions are eligible. The request form becomes available within the StarRez Portal Summer application after your offer is emailed to you and your summer deposit has been paid. 

A short-term storage option for students is also available for students who are planning to move out by Winter Move Out day but will return to Summer residence on the official move in day. Details will be emailed to students who register for this option within the StarRez Portal form. This option is available at no cost, but students must meet eligibility criteria to have their request approved.

Next steps after accepting your residence offer

  • Room assignments are emailed by the last week in April for full summer stays or shorter-term stays beginning in early May.
  • Room assignments are emailed within 2-3 business days of your deposit submission for shorter-term stays beginning after early May. 
  • Changes to applications for full summer stays can be made until March 31, 2022. To make changes to your application for shorter-term stays, email us. All changes must be requested in writing with at least 2 weeks' notice.
