Dr. Jon Dellandrea Award: RBC

Award statuettes

In the Management Co-op program, we work with more than 300 employers annually across a wide variety of industries, sectors, and business functions. The Dr. Jon Dellandrea Award, named for the U of T Scarborough alumnus who founded Management Co-op, is given annually to a top employer that:

  • Fosters the growth of co-op throughout their organization;
  • Provides unparalleled skills development opportunities for co-op talent; and,
  • Motivates students to excel in their work terms and develop a keen interest in staying on full time after graduation.

For RBC, a co-op student could be the future President or CFO. In our experience, Management Co-op students are recruited as having the potential to become leaders within the bank. This is evident from co-op experiences that are designed to build meaningful leadership skills among their University of Toronto hires.
A flagship partner of Management Co-op since 2001 (pictured: the RBC recruitment team visits The BRIDGE in January 2019), the Royal Bank of Canada was named the Dr. Jon Dellandrea Award winner for the 2020/21 academic year by demonstrating an unprecedented commitment to student success. This award is the highest recognition offered to employers of Management Co-op students at U of T Scarborough.

“RBC co-op programs are designed to train and bring out the personal best in students. Since 2015, the Royal Bank of Canada has employed Management Co-op students in more than 100 work terms across several functional areas of business,” said Sischa Maharaj, Assistant Director of External Relations and Communications with U of T Scarborough Management.

“In particular, RBC stood out by making an early commitment during the pandemic to maintain virtual jobs for students and continue to build their campus brand. The team increased virtual communication and presence with dedicated campus ambassadors, funded peer-to-peer support regularly, and volunteered for various campus networking events. The support from hiring managers has been outstanding as they demonstrated a keen eye for student wellbeing and development during the pandemic. We couldn't be happier to present the Dr. Jon Dellandrea Award to the RBC this year.”

Students who completed work terms at RBC shared rave reviews about their experience. Hear from Mandy, Zohra, Mithushaa, and Markus (play video).
