Culture Counts: Using Cultural Differences to Create a Competitive Advantage

Culture Counts Event

The Need for Intercultural Competence Training

In any reflection of a company’s success, it is the bottom line, or the impact on the profit and loss, that is the final measuring stick. However, the impact of successful integration of disparate cultures within any business is difficult to be isolated numerically. Many organizations may not even be able to discuss these topics openly in a corporate environment.

In recent years various bodies of research have provided the evidence that non-homogeneous teams are simply smarter. The challenge for organizations is to find a way to harness the power of diverse thinking or cognitive diversity. With greater interconnectedness, and a heightened awareness of inclusion, the acquisition of effective intercultural competence is no longer an optional or nice to have skill. However, very few managers have had any formal preparation for facilitating dialogues with diverse groups of employees. There is a need to invest in developing intercultural competence that would enhance a manager’s ability to be aware and respond to the needs and reality of their teams who are culturally different from them.

The Culture Counts session explores the cost of intercultural conflict on the P&L and provides strategies of how businesses can be successful by innovating in the understanding and use of cultures and successful intercultural communication practices to gain a competitive advantage in a highly diverse and global environment.
