How to apply

Applications to the Master of Environmental Science Program must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies (Admissions Application) using an online application which is housed on a secure server at the University of Toronto.

A valid email account is needed to complete the online application, as the University will correspond with applicants using email.

The online application allows applicants to manage and submit biographical and educational information as well as specific documents (i.e. Summary of Interest, Curriculum Vitae, etc.) immediately to the University. Applicants can edit an in-progress application and check the status of all documents submitted using a secure password and Userid.

Log in to the online application.

Complete first section of the online application, which includes:

  • biographical and education information. Please note that the "Graduate Unit" for the online application is the Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences.
  • selection of program option and field of study
  • identifying at least THREE referees (maximum five) whom you have qualified in advance to provide a favorable reference on your behalf. Inform them that the University of Toronto, School of Graduate Studies will be contacting them by email.

Arrange fee payment. This will trigger:

  • an email notification to your referees
  • access to two supporting documents: Departmental Academic Interest Form and Summary of Interests Form, which you will need to complete and upload to your online application.
  • the ability to upload :
    • Unofficial scanned transcripts for each post-secondary program completed, attempted, or in progress. Usually, this will be a scanned transcript, but in the case of Canadian post-secondary institutions, the applicant may submit a screen capture of their academic record from their institution's student web service. Please include an official grading key.
    • Resume or Curriculum Vitae

Arrange to complete and submit Official English Facility Test Results (for applicants who have graduated from a non-Canadian University).

Be aware of the deadline dates for application and documents. In order to be considered for an entrance scholarship the early deadline applies.

Your application is reviewed by an Admissions Committee.  All aspects of your application are thoroughly considered.

Selected applicants may be contacted for an interview either in person or remotely (e.g. Skype).

The application review process will begin with your scanned transcripts alone. You may be asked to submit official paper transcripts before an admissions decision is finalized.

Applications are considered complete and can be reviewed only after all documentation is received online by the deadline date. If you need to send in any supporting documentation (other than MELAB English Facility results), please send directly to the Graduate Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (MEnvSc Program), University of Toronto Scarborough, 1265 Military Trail, M1C 1A4.

Please DO NOT send supporting documentation to the School of Graduate Studies as this could significantly delay the processing of your application.

Please read and be familiar with all deadlines.
