The application process to the MEnvSc program is the same for international and domestic students, however international students have aditional requirements. International student may also expect to be called for a mandatory interview should they move forward in the admission process (either in person or remotely). The admissions commitee also interviews domestic applicants.

If your primary language is not English and you have graduated from a non-Canadian University* where the language of instruction and examination was not English, then you must demonstrate your facility in English. This can be accomplished through one of the tests listed below:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

The minimum (English) requirements for entry into the M.Env.Sc. and PhD are:
Paper-based Test: Overall score of 580, TWE (Essay writing component) of 4
Internet-Based Test: Overall score of 93, Writing score of 22, Speaking score of 22

NOTE: The University of Toronto Institution code is 0982- 00.

International English Language Testing Service (IELTS)
The minimum (English) requirements for entry into the M.Env.Sc. and PhD is 7.0 (Academic) with at least 6.5 for each component.

Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)
The minimum (English) requirements for entry into the M.Env.Sc. and PhD is 85

The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE)
The minimum (English) requirements for entry into the M.Env.Sc. and PhD is 76 with at least 22 in each component and 32 in the writing component.

UofT School of Continuing Studies Academic Preparation Course
The English Language Program at the School of Continuing Studies, University of Toronto, offers a 12-week intensive Academic English Course for individuals preparing for degree studies at the graduate level. English Facility Test scores are valid for two years.

NOTE:

For TOEFL, IELTS and COPE tests, please arrange with the testing agency to send your score electronically to the University of Toronto, Enrolment Services (there is no need to send paper score sheets for any of these tests). However, MELAB does not send scores to institutions electronically, so please arrange with MELAB to have scores sent to the following address: University of Toronto, Enrolment Services, 172 St George Street, Toronto ON M5R 0A3.
