Study Skills

Maximize study times

What Should I Try First?

Having effective study skills is a combination of managing your time well along with reflecting on and adjusting your study strategies to meet your learning preferences. Below you will see a variety of strategies that are based on the 6 Most Effective Learning Strategies. While these strategies have been strongly supported by cognitive science, how you apply them will depend on your learning preferences.

When selecting strategies, keep in mind how you work best:

  • Do you work better alone or with other people?
  • Do you prefer to write, speak, draw or create?

Remember that you may need multiple strategies depending on the content of a course (e.g. you may need one strategy for anatomy to recall information such as a song whereas you may need to write out notes and create flashcards for psychology.
