Balancing Work & School

While being a student is very important, it is also important to consider how much time you can commit to school with the other responsibilities in your life. Course loads for students with disabilities may not be the same as course loads for other students. Students with disabilities may need extra time for studying. Students often work while in school, which can be challenging given your academic schedule.

If you are planning on working while in school, consider whether your course load is appropriate given the time you have. Generally, 2-3 hours of studying per every hour of class time is recommended. The recommended amount of time for work outside of school is 15-20 hours (Centre on Education and the Workforce).

It is important to remember that these are general recommendations that you may need to adjust given your specific context. If you are looking for work with a flexible schedule, consider exploring work study positions
