Understanding and Recalling Math Concepts

Learning Strategies and Modalities

We all use a variety of senses to learn and we have certain senses that we are better at using than others. Consider whether you understand and remember math concepts best by watching (i.e. images), listening (i.e. words), or touching (i.e. manipulative materials). If you do well with listening or watching, consider combining images with words to increase the effectiveness of your learning (seeĀ Most Effective Learning Strategies). Below you will find a list of various strategies you can try, as well as math-specific practices to improve recall. Students are encouraged to try all the strategies, regardless of what you think you would prefer at first glance - different courses rely on different forms of memory and studying.
