ELF Mobility Modules

Global Field Scholar Costa Rica trip

Mobility Modules (up to $25,000)

Proposals will articulate clear, short-term travel opportunities (e.g.: in-course module; reading week excursion; land-based learning module; domestic/international immersion) as connected to course-based learning outcomes that are accessible to all students in a course section. Due to the resource-intensive nature of planning such initiatives, there is a two-step proposal process:

  • Step 1 – Expression of Interest (EOI)
  • Step 2 – Long Form Proposal (by invitation)

The 2024-25 ELF Application Form is now closed. The 2025-26 ELF Application Form will open in early January 2025, with a deadline to apply at the beginning of April 2025.

If your request is for $1000.00 or less, please contact your department Chair as a first step to inquire about potential department funds. If other funding sources are not available, please proceed to Step 1.

UTSC’s Strategic Plan outlines a values-based approach to Inspiring Inclusive Excellence (p.14). Provide a rationale for your proposed project using this four-pronged framework and an EDIA lens. Explain how the intended experiential learning activity will: (1) address course and/or program learning outcomes; (2) enhance student learning; (3) incorporate key EL evaluation components (i.e. reflective inquiry); (4) identify and/or inform impact on our community and industry partners; (5) ensure inclusive and accessible opportunities to encourage the participation and inclusion of students with disabilities. Finally, please explain how your project will shift to remote learning should public health measures require such a return (5000 character limit, including spaces).

Reflection is the key to creating connections between students’ EL experiences, their course work, previous knowledge, and how they will use this knowledge in the future. Most students do not find it easy to create deep reflections, but with practice reflection will become very rewarding. There are many ways to assign and assess reflection in your course. For ideas on how to get started - list of possible assignments. Supporting Meaningful Reflection may also be useful in teaching reflective practices to your students.
