Biography

Professor Lynn Tucker is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream in the Department of Arts, Culture & Media at U of T Scarborough. Engaging people in lifelong music-making is at the forefront of her work with research interests in learner-centered pedagogy, instrumental music pedagogy, facilitation, community music, avocational music-making, and leadership. She has consistently secured administrative, teaching, and academic activity grants. Her dedication to fostering accessible music-making opportunities for students regardless of career path was recognized with a Canadian Music Educators’ Association Excellence in Leadership Award (2015). 

Prior to being appointed the Associate Dean Experiential & Global Learning, Professor Tucker served as Acting Chair of the Department of Arts, Culture & Media (ACM) (2015-16, and 2018), Associate Chair Programming & Communications (2019-2020), Associate Chair Experiential Education, Communications & Recruitment (2016-19), and as a member of the U of T Scarborough Campus Council (2015-2020). 

Working through an inclusive excellence lens in her current role as Associate Dean Experiential & Global Learning, Professor Tucker is responsible for the prioritization of expanded experiential learning opportunities at U of T Scarborough including enhanced student mobility, and local and global partnerships integrated in the curriculum, and coordination and oversight of the Experiential Learning Fund in support of academic departments as they continue to strengthen and grow experiential learning offerings.

7 Questions with Associate Dean Experiential & Global Learning, Professor Lynn Tucker.

  1. What can you tell us about a project you are currently working on?  The Experiential Learning team continues to work on the new experiential and global learning SharePoint - a space where you can find all things related to experiential and global learning at U of T Scarborough. We recently launched phase one of this initiative, establishing a strong foundation upon which we can build. This fall, we move to phase two where we continue to grow the initial areas while introducing new elements such as the Community & Industry Partners section, and a deeper dive into Global Learning facets of Experiential Learning.
  2. If you had to define yourself in three words, what would they be?  Listener, Collaborator, Builder
  3. What do you enjoy most about your role?  Experiential Learning is found everywhere at U of T Scarborough so I’m grateful to learn with and work alongside awesome folks from every department and unit across campus.
  4. Why U of T Scarborough?  Because it feels like home.
  5. What important lesson have you learned in your current role?  That we need to celebrate more often all the amazing things we are doing in experiential and global learning. We are leaders in these areas - let’s trumpet that more often.
  6. What is the one thing people likely do not know about you?  Garden centres are magnets for me - it’s hard to pass by without stopping and bringing home a new plant friend to nurture and watch grow.
