7 Questions with Vice-Dean Recruitment, Enrolment & Student Success, Professor David Zweig

  1. What can you tell us about a project you are currently working on?  I’m working on a lot of different initiatives right now including implementing a new strategic enrolment plan, enhancing recruitment and yield for SAMIH-related growth, planning for the Health Professions Certificate, and managing the Academic Integrity and IAPI portfolios. The project I’m most excited about is one working with Management Professors Andre Cire and Shreyas Sekhar and the Registrar’s Office in developing new artificial intelligence-based predictive models to enhance our recruitment and enrolment functions to support our enrolment goals.
  2. If you had to define yourself in three words, what would they be?  Determined, Passionate, and Loyal. Yes, I just described myself similarly to a dog, with a bone.
  3. What do you enjoy most about your role?  Shaking up the status quo and pushing to make things better with the help of my very highly talented colleagues.
  4. Why U of T Scarborough?  Why wouldn’t I want to work at the best university in Canada? And, I love a good underdog story, which is why I love UTSC.
  5. What important lesson have you learned in your current role?  It’s hard to change the direction of a big ship and sometimes I go too fast, but if the status quo no longer serves us, we need to do things differently. I guess I should add impatient in my answer to question #2.
  6. What is the one thing people likely do not know about you?  Probably not much. I’m an open book – maybe to a fault. I take my work very seriously but surround me with my favourite colleagues and we’ll have a great time getting important stuff done. I also have a secret (not anymore) passion for ‘quality’ reality TV. I love Survivor and never miss an episode.
  7. Which movie, book, or show makes you laugh the most?  Laugh out loud? Definitely VEEP.
