Campus Farm Coordinator

As the Campus Farm Coordinator, Béatrice Lego is responsible for providing support and advice to faculty and units regarding the use of the Campus Farm for teaching, research, and community engagement purposes. She assists with the content and the production of the experiential learning that the Campus Farm offers. In addition, her role provides administrative support to operate and manage the farm.

Béatrice Lego brings years of experience in ­project management and coordination, facility operation, and urban agriculture to this role. She has been involved in the Campus Farm project since the beginning in 2018. Previously she was the lab manager at the department of Bioengineering at McGill University where she set-up five research labs. She has worked with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-food Canada as a research scientist and from which she holds two declarations of invention. She holds a PhD in Polymer and Surface Chemistry from the Université de Montréal, and completed a double-certificate in permaculture design and advanced social systems design from Permaculture Women’s Guild.

  1. What can you tell us about a project you are currently working on?  In collaboration with the OVPD Ops Team and IITS, we are currently creating a SharePoint site for the Campus Farm. Information about the farm, experiential learning opportunities, application process, and hiring opportunities for students, will be available on the site. This virtual space aims at promoting the farm to the wider UTSC community and to connect with the farm team.
  2. If you had to define yourself in three words, what would they be? Collaborative, Determined, Welcoming
  3. What do you enjoy most about your role? Working outdoors with the broad set of faculty, staff, student, and community partners. One of my favourite things about the role is watching new visitors and users discover and find joy in the farm.
  4. Why U of T Scarborough? It is a beautiful campus, with a diverse community of people, that keep me excited to come to work every day.
  5. What important lesson have you learned in your current role? Patience and resilience are your best allies in time of uncertainty.
  6. What is the one thing people likely do not know about you?  I make excellent campfire popcorn!
  7. Which movie, book, or show makes you laugh the most? Astérix & Obélix (Comic book and movies!)
