Security Camera Systems

Campus Safety Operations manages and maintains closed circuit television (CCTV) security cameras throughout UTSC.  They are recorded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Recordings are kept for 30 calendar days.

CCTV security cameras are generally located at the main entrances of buildings, public study spaces, large lecture halls and gathering spaces, parking lots and areas of community vulnerability.

Departments and individuals are not permited to install private security camera systems on campus.

Pursuant to Section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (1990), the images from CCTV are collected under the authority of the University of Toronto Act (1978) and are used to monitor the safety and security of the premises, to assist in investigations and other related and consistent purposes.

Security recordings are accessed by Campus Safety only and can be requested by Human Resources.

If you have questions about CCTV cameras or the collection of data, use and disclosure of this information by the University of Toronto, please contact Campus Safety at 416-287-7398 or safety@utsc.utoronto.ca
