Panic Buttons

Due to the nature of their work, some departments may require the extra security feature of a panic button for the safety of their staff.

Panic buttons are connected directly to the security system monitored by Campus Safety.  When a panic button is depressed, a silent alarm is sent directly to the on-shift Special Constables.  The alarm message will include the location of the panic alarm. While response time may vary depending on the location, panic alarms are given priority response by our Special Constables.

If you have concerns about your workplace safety, please contact Environmental Health and Safety, and when appropriate they will make arrangements to conduct a workplace safety assessment for your department.  The outcome of the assessment will include recommendations of physical environmental changes, operational procedures and possibly security equipment additions.

Panic strips are located within all of our accessible washrooms on campus.  All panic strips are progammed to send an alarm directly to the on-shift Special Constables, the door will unlock (but not open) and a light outside the washroom will turn on, indicating that assistance is required.  Some of the panic strips also include a light inside the washroom to confirm the panic alarm has been initiated.

All panic buttons and panic strips are tested weekly by Building Patrol.
