Campus Safety Operations manages and maintains the fire alarm systems, the sprinkler systems and mass notification systems at UTSC.
All buildings on campus are equipped with integrated and monitored fire protection systems. Fire protection systems include detection devices (smoke, heat and beam detectors), annunciation devices (strobes, horns and speakers), sprinkler systems and specialized suppression systems (for data centres, chemical storage and kitchens).
All buildings on campus are also equipped with an integrated mass notification system which includes internal speakers and external loud speakers. The system can broadcast automated pre-recorded messages or make live announcements.
All fire extinguishers and fire hoses are visually checked monthly by Campus Safety staff. Campus Safety Operations arranges for annual inspections, hydrostatic testing, maintenance and replacement by certified technicians.
