To Report Emergencies
- Call Campus Safety at 416-978-2222 and give accurate and brief details of the emergency and your location.
- Remain on the line and follow the directions of the dispatcher.
If You Discover a Fire
- Stay calm.
- Activate the nearest pull station.
- Leave the area and close all doors behind you.
- Call Campus Safety at 416-978-2222 and give accurate and brief details of the emergency and your location.
- Leave the building by the nearest safe exit, if you are on the ground floor and able to do so. Do not use elevators.
- Proceed to your nearest exit at a safe speed, closing the doors behind you.
- Once outside the building, move away from the exits and stay clear of the area.
- Do not re-enter an evacuated building until authorized to do so by Campus Safety or other Emergency Personnel.
When You Hear the Fire Alarm
- Leave the building immediately by the nearest safe exit, if you are on the ground floor and able to do so. Do not use elevators.
- Proceed to your nearest exit at a safe speed, closing the doors behind you.
- Once outside the building, move away from the exits and stay clear of the area.
- Do not re-enter an evacuated building until authorized to do so by Campus Safety or other Emergency Personnel.
If You are not on the Ground Floor and can not Exit the building
- There are desginated Emergency Evacuation Areas located in the emergency exit stairwells in each building. These stairwells have a fire separation from the rest of the building and have independent smoke evacuation fans.
- Once you are in the Emergency Evacuation Area, contact Campus Safety at 416-978-2222 and let them know you exact location. Remain on the phone with the dispatcher and follow their directions.
- Campus Safety have emergency evacuation chairs to assist them with lifting you up/down the stairs.
If Evacuation is not Safe
- Return to the room and close the door, leaving it unlocked.
- Seal off all openings that may admit smoke into the room.
- Stay as low to the floor as possible, if smoke enters the room.
- Call 9-1-1 and alert them to your location. Wait to be rescued. Listen to the instructions given by emergency personnel.
