Rescheduled date and time
Date:
Tuesday, November 7, 2023
Time: 1pm-4pm
Location: Meet in EV 140 (main floor, 1065 Military Trail)

Plants have long been used to dye textiles all sorts of colors. There are very simple and effective ways to do this in your own kitchen. In this workshop you will learn two natural dye techniques: sun-dyeing and steam-dyeing using local foraged plant materials from the UTSC Campus Farm. You do not need any previous knowledge or skills to take part of the workshop.

Maria de Lourdes Orozco Cuautle, our community partner of the workshop, will join us virtually to showcase her collection and share knowledge about natural dye.

Meeting instructions:

Participants will meet at the EV Building (1065 Military Trail) in the lobby at 9.30am on Thursday, 26 October and we will walk over to the UTSC farm. Then, after foraging for materials, we will return to the EV building for the rest of the workshop.

The first of a series of workshops associated with the interdisciplinary pedagogical research project: Learning From Dolls: a partnership with Indigenous collector María de Lourdes Orozco Cuautle.

Funded by the I.D.E.A.S. grant from the Department of Arts, Culture and Media.
