Before Covid our UTSC community learned the traditional teachings around the Indigenous Hand Drum from our gifted Mi'Kmaq Indigenous Engagement Coordinator Juanita Muise. This project started as a collaboration between Professors Laura Risk and Lynn Tucker in the Music & Culture Programing in the department of Arts, Culture and Media and the Student Life department in 2020. The purpose of this project was to bring community together and share culture through music as part of reconciliation on campus.
Join our community on March 16 at noon in AA303 as Indigenous Elder Josh leads us in ceremony, in the Awakening of the Drums. Learn about Indigenous ways of learning and be a part of history in the making as we gather to feast the drums and decolonize spaces on campus!
