Nabil in Ghana

Nabil Irfan

Hi everyone, my name is Nabil Irfan and I am a third year student double majoring in International Development Studies and Economics. During summer 2017, I will be working with the Uniterra program as a research assistant in Tamale, Ghana in collaboration with their partner organization, UrbANet, and Ghanaian students. This experience would not have been possible without the support provided by the University of Toronto and the Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship program.

My main focus will be the economic development within the guinea fowl value chain, which is a source of livelihood to many in the region. As part of this, I will be researching the markets and social practices currently in place and subsequently work towards improving practices and ultimately expanding the livelihoods of the locals.

Realistically, I do understand that the short mandate I am about to embark on is only the beginning of a long and complex process, but I do ultimately intend on using these three months to bring out piece meal change. I plan to do this by carrying out extensive research with the Ghanaians so that we can work together to provide improved and sustainable solutions which can be a source of advantage to the locals after the expiration of my mandate.

Going forward, I do intend on going back to my home country Pakistan and utilizing my experiences and knowledge in order to improve the socio-economic conditions of the underprivileged. I want do this in a sustainable manner in order to achieve results which could help the most marginalized populations in becoming resilient and self-sufficient.

Also,

Me and Fredriz have planned to make a joint Instagram account from which we can carry out activities for outreach.
