Ivy in Tanzania

To the Start of a New Life in Tanzania

Hello everyone! My name’s Ivy and I’ll be leaving for my yearlong coop placement in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in a few days with Cuso International, while working under their local partner organization, VSO Tanzania, as a Communication Advisor in the strategic partnership sector.

If you ask me how I feel at the moment about departing for coop, I will honestly say that I’m feeling more anxious than excited. I’ve never travelled anywhere by myself before, nor have I been to the African continent on my travels. However, I’m the type of person who doesn’t get excited about things until the very last minute, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I suddenly get all giddy inside once I board the plane at Toronto Pearson. I’ve heard great things about VSO Tanzania and how they go the extra step to supporting volunteers and us IDS coop students, so it’s reassuring for me to know beforehand that I’ll have a strong support network once I arrive in the country. I’ll finally have an opportunity to travel somewhere after being cooped up in Canada for the past few years. That’s all that matters.

I’ll be starting a blog on tumblr and an instagram account eventually, so I’ll be sure to share the links with everyone. Until next time!
