Abeer in Botswana

Abeer

A rich family tradition of social work, a passion to pursue poverty alleviation on a professional level and the belief that well rounded research guides well-grounded development have driven my desire to secure a placement with WUSC. It is my dream, when I finish my education, to come back to my country and apply all I have learned towards gender equality and poverty alleviation for a more equitable world. I believe that my placement with WUSC, a leading organization in the field of poverty alleviation and dynamic global partnerships will be the perfect stepping stone to achieving my dream of making a lasting change, of creating a paradigm shift, in the lives of the less privileged.

I will be volunteering as the Teen Club Project Assistant with the Baylor Children’s Clinical Centre of Excellence (COE) in Gaborone, Botswana. I believe this placement will be a golden opportunity to take my specialization in Health Studies and International Development to a new level outside the classroom to a beautiful culture, a rich scenery, unique community and most importantly a new journey. I am excited to be weaving this new story in my life one that is full of valuable lessons to be learnt and memories to be made.
