Dr. Shamim Ahmed is a distinguished scholar who earned his Ph.D. in Social and Behavioral Health Sciences from the esteemed Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. His research endeavours involve the application of intersectionality and neoliberalism as a critical qualitative researcher, delving into less explored research areas within health and social science. Grounded in a teaching philosophy founded on inclusivity, achieving course objectives, and cultivating an empowering learning environment, Dr. Ahmed draws inspiration from Brazilian educator Paulo Freire's progressive and humanistic educational ideals. By challenging existing knowledge, his approach aims to unleash the untapped human potential, particularly those who are oppressed and disadvantaged in society. He is dedicated to addressing social injustices and health inequalities and equipping students with the tools for meaningful engagement in these areas.

Before starting his doctoral journey, Dr. Ahmed dedicated over a decade to the development sector in South Asia and Africa, contributing to various international development and charity organizations. His work focused on enhancing the livelihoods of impoverished and marginalized communities, showcasing his deep commitment to social welfare. Currently serving as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Toronto, McMaster University, and Algoma University, Dr. Ahmed also has two separate master's degrees in economics and public health, along with a post-graduate diploma in Sexuality, Culture, and Society from the prestigious University of Amsterdam, where he was honoured as a NUFFIC fellow.

Dr. Ahmed's impact extends beyond academia, as evidenced by his noteworthy contributions to peer-reviewed journals, including a publication in the renowned health journal The Lancet, addressing equity in the health sector. His expertise is further acknowledged through his role as a reviewer for several distinguished health journals. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Dr. Ahmed is a versatile, creative person, having authored five poetry books and numerous compilations of short stories in Bengali, all of which have been published. His multifaceted contributions reflect a profound commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering inclusivity, and advocating positive social change.
