Final Allied Health event of term examines Physician Assistant careers

Irene Chhay speaking to UTSC students
Students received information on a career as a Physician Assistant from Irene Chhay of Michael Garron Hospital.

Irene Chhay, a Physician Assistant (PA) at Michael Garron Hospital in East York, Toronto, concluded the DHS Allied Health Speaker Series for the 2023/24 year with a discussion detailing her profession, academic and career trajectory, a typical day in her life, and the requirements for becoming a Physician Assistant in Canada. Her presentation highlighted the nuances and professional scopes among MDs, NPs, and PAs- something students, staff, and faculty attending found highly useful and insightful. Her presentation also touched on the scope of practice for a PA across different provinces in Canada, and also in the United States.

The audience of over 40 attendees remained fully engaged throughout the entire presentation, with Irene's parents and husband among them, demonstrating their support. We were pleased to welcome students from our sister departments of Biological Sciences and Psychology/Neuroscience to this talk, which led to a stimulating and diverse Q&A session.

We look forward to your continued participation in September 2024 as we resume our series.
