Physician Assistant, Michael Garron Hospital

Irene Chhay holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Public Health from the University of Guelph. Driven by her desire to engage directly with patients, Irene successfully completed the BHSc-PA (Physician Assistant) program at McMaster University in 2018. Since graduating, Irene has worked in various roles as a Physician Assistant. These include working at an endocrinology clinic, family medicine walk-in clinic, and at Mount Sinai Hospital in the General Surgery department where she managed the inpatient ward, performed surgical assisting in the OR, and recruited participants for research studies.

In 2022, Irene transitioned to Michael Garron Hospital, becoming the inaugural Physician Assistant on the Complex Continuing Care Unit. She works within a multidisciplinary team to coordinate and deliver care of patients in the Short-Term Rehabilitation program, Chronic Ventilation program, and Memory Care Unit. Irene's commitment extends beyond her clinical duties- she enjoys being a mentor to aspiring healthcare professionals and is an assessor for admissions to the PA program at McMaster University.
