International Week 2023

International education is a dynamic, rich and significant development in higher education, transforming the way knowledge, competencies and skills are constructed. As it continues to grow, shaping the lives of millions of tertiary students, higher education institutions search for new ways to widen its benefits, and understand its impacts. 

The Office of International and Global Engagement is pleased to present the International Week at UTSC. It will feature a series of free events related to internationalization of higher education. They include panel discussions on inclusive internationalization and funding opportunities for international engagement. In addition, it will also feature a food reception on intercultural skills. All events are free. Faculty, staff and students are cordially invited.

International education accelerates a wide adoption of knowledge and practices across the globe transforming the lives of millions of people who study, conduct research or learn new skills away from home. With the recent growth of the sector and the rise of complex global challenges, new debates call for an examination of its impacts and ways to advance emerging priorities. The Office of International and Global Engagement at the University of Toronto Scarborough is pleased to host International Engagement: The Search for New Paradigms.

This free virtual event will feature a panel discussion on inclusive student mobility and the role of international education as a tool for equitable relations. It will explore challenges and opportunities to address gaps in the sector and examine ways to reimagine international engagement.

INTERCULTURAL LEARNING: WITH DARLA DEARDORFF

This session focuses on Story Circles, an intercultural methodology that has been piloted in all five UNESCO regions around the world as well as in the virtual environment. UNESCO Story Circles works with any group of people in a wide variety of settings using little to no resources. This structured yet adaptable intercultural methodology is used to practice key intercultural competencies such as listening for understanding

This event will feature International cuisine from four different regions; an occasion to reflect and learn about the linkages between intercultural skills, food, and storytelling.

  • Bread and Salt Fine Food: Chef Tharwat Awamleh (Jordan)
  • Bao Mama: Chef Niña Abacan (The Philippines)
