Andrew Arifuzzaman

Over the past 30 years, Andrew Arifuzzaman has held senior leadership roles across the academic and health sectors in some of Canada’s most prestigious organizations. Andrew is also passionate about mental health, sports and sustainability and dedicates much of free time to volunteering in these areas.

Throughout his career, Andrew has led teams in a wide range of business disciplines including operations, finance, marketing and communications, advancement, information technology, research, partnerships, government relations, capital development and strategy.

As Chief Administrative and Strategy Officer at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), Andrew has spearheaded the development of the Campus’ Strategic and Master Plans as well as brand strategy. He has also fostered partnerships across the public and private sectors that have brought together diverse groups and built innovative new programs and opportunities including the creation of the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, Canada’s premier sports centre that supports high performance athletes, the University and community in a joint venture partnership.

Andrew has also led the development of over 2,000,000 square feet of new campus infrastructure featuring cutting edge research and teaching facilities and some of the most sustainable institutional buildings in the country while using various funding strategies including public private partnerships. The current focus is now on regional economic growth through the development of sustainability partnerships bringing together industry, government and academic institutions.

Before joining the University of Toronto, Andrew was a key leader in the merger to create the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). First providing operational leadership of the research program and then moved to take on a senior leadership role of all clinical programs.

Andrew was also an active member of a neuroscience research team publishing in the areas of functional neuroanatomy and human brain imaging.

Andrew has extensive governance experience including his current roles as hospital Board Chair of Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and Vice-Chair (formerly Chair) of the Board at the Toronto Pan AM Sports Centre and President of the UTSC Residence LP. Andrew has also served as board member or strategic advisor for various community organizations.

In 2022, Andrew was inducted into the Scarborough Walk of Fame in recognition for his leadership in the education sector for the region.

Andrew received his undergraduate training in philosophy and psychology from York University Toronto, Health Leadership Training, through a joint program with Rotman School of Management and the Kings Fund (England) and holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
