Campus Projects

We have an urgent need to address the under-met health needs of the Eastern GTA, including Scarborough and Durham Region, coupled with a need to grow the health professional workforce to support an aging population and address the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proposed Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) at the University of Toronto Scarborough will create a hub of activity that supports the academic efforts in the area of health, wellbeing and resilient communities.

Harmony Commons, a new student residence has been built on Ellesmere Road providing 746 beds for students at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). The contemporary design incorporates single and double occupancy bedrooms. This project aims to be the one of the largest Passive House projects in North America, showcasing UTSC's commitment to advanced sustainability with a design that uses advance energy efficient principles. The building has integrated dining facilities and a servery, and offers various mixed-use spaces for workshop style learning, lounges, and now houses the Student Housing and Residence Life offices.

Indigenous House symbolizes the University of Toronto Scarborough’s recognition of its responsibility to strengthen and rehabilitate its relationship with Indigenous peoples. It will be a highly visible and integral part of our academic mission, located in the heart of our campus.

It will bring together our community of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous lifelong learners, by supporting and celebrating diverse Indigenous Ways of Knowing locally and from across Turtle Island.

Set to open in 2024, the Sam Ibrahim Building will be a state-of-the-art teaching space which will include 22 technology-enhanced classrooms and lecture halls ranging in sizes from 30 to 500 seats as well as 133 faculty offices. This project will create a central hub on the North Campus featuring fourth floor garden spaces as well as lounges, a café, labs and open seating areas, allowing for a truly innovative experience. The building will house the Sam Ibrahim Centre for Inclusive Excellence in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Leadership as well as Student Services offices and spaces for the department of computer and mathematical sciences.

The University of Toronto Scarborough is planning a Retail and Parking Commons on its north campus that will provide centralized vehicular parking and allow for the near and distant future development of the north campus. In addition to parking, the facility will be comprised of a central loading dock, the UTSC book store, parking departmental offices and communal programming spaces.
