Outdoor Recreation

Come experience the serenity, peaceful and adventurous world of the great outdoors. Research suggests that being physically active outdoors helps reduce stress, anxiety, anger, and improves mood, overall health and wellbeing.  

Registration Steps:
Registered student prices are for UofT students taking winter academic courses or those who have purchased a winter non-registered student membership for the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.  Register online at recreg.utoronto.ca or in person at the TPASC Registration Desk. A Login ID and PIN are required for online registration. Contact the Athletics Department (416 283-2918) or email Candice Pope with your Student Number. Once you have your Login ID and PIN, visit University of Toronto Program Registration to register for classes. The course code for each trip can be found below.

Non-registered student prices are for UofT students who are not taking winter academic courses, along with UTSC Faculty, Staff and recent U of T grads.   To register, please contact Laurie Wright lwright@utsc.utoronto.ca.  Your email should include the trip details, student number (if applicable) and how you are associated to UofT.  External guests of participants are not eligible to attend Outdoor Recreation Trips unless space allows.

Refund Policy: No refunds will be issued 5 business days prior to the trip.  All trips are weather dependent and may be rescheduled or cancelled.  Full refunds will be given, upon request, for rescheduled trips.

For all trips that include being on boat or in the water, we are now providing a FREE deep water orientation session at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.  This one hour class will include jumping into the water with a life jacket on and getting to the edge of the pool safely.  No swim experience necesary.  To book your session, please contact Ramona Seupersad at seupersad@utsc.utoronto.ca

Please note that all Outdoor Recreation trips that include transportation will meet at the East entrance of the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (875 Morningside Ave). This will be the pick up and drop off location.

Upcoming Adventures

UTSC on Ice

Celebrate the end of exams and the start of the holiday season by joining us for a skate at Harbourfront Centre.  Transportation provided - bus will leave from the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (east entrance) at 5:00 p.m.
Hot chocolate and snacks will be provided.  Skate rentals available onsite for $10.

Dates: Wednesday, December 20th from 5:00 - 10:00pm

Discover Scuba

Come experience the thrill of Scuba diving in our shallow water training pool.  Each session will include:

  • Classroom instruction and learning
  • Pool instruction (both above and under water)
  • All scuba equipment for your session, including mask, snorkel, fins, weights, scuba jacket, tank and regulators
  • Access to the first eLearning module of PADI's Open Water Scuba Diver Course

Dates: Wednesday, January 17th, February 21st or March 21st from 7:30pm - 10:30pm
Location: Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre - Training Pool
Registered Student Price:  $45 (plus tax) per class

Ski or Snowboard Trips

Hit the slopes on Friday evenings at Brimacombe ski/snowboard resort.  Equipment rental package and 1 hour group lesson are available at an additional charge.  Leave the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre at 3:30 p.m. by bus and return back to campus by 10:30 p.m.  You must register at least 1 week prior to the trip.  Space is limited.  Non-registered students and guests may attend if space allows.  Please contact Laurie Wright at lwright@utsc.utoronto.ca for pricing and availability.

Arrowhead Provincial Park

We will take you by bus to Arrowhead Provincial Park for the ultimate winter getaway!  Transportation, snacks and pizza dinner included, please bring your own lunch. Equipment available to rent and no experience is necessary.

Activities that are offered include:

  • Cross-country skiing: An instructor will provide an orientation on how to ski through the groomed forest trails.  There are over 30km of easy to advanced trails to choose from.  Ski and boot rentals available at an additional charge.
  • Snow Tubing: Tubes and shuttle bus will be provided at no extra cost
  • Skating: Try the very unique 1.5km ice trail through the forest! Skates will be provided free at location.  UTSC Hockey Players Association will be available to assist beginners.
  • Snowshoeing: A supervisor will lead groups through the trail system to view the park. Snowshoes provided at no extra cost.

Date: Friday, February 23rd from 7:15 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
