The Department of Anthropology at UTSC congratulates Mary Silcox for winning the 2024 Principal’s Excellence Award for Scholarship.

This award recognizes outstanding research achievements of established scholars at the University of Toronto Scarborough who have compiled a distinguished record of nationally and internationally recognized, impactful research and scholarly activity, achieving pre-eminence in their field and impact beyond academia.

“I am tremendously chuffed to receive this honour,” says Prof. Silcox. “I honestly didn’t expect it. The work we do in my lab is a little weird, and it doesn’t cost a lot of money, so I feel like we tend to fly under the radar. So receiving this honour means an awful lot to me, because it makes me feel like the work we’re doing is being seen. I’d like offer my thanks for the award, and also extend my thanks to all the undergraduate trainees, and grad student and postdoc colleagues who have worked with me in the nearly 14 years I’ve been at UTSC.”
