The Department of Political Science and the Political Science Students’ Association are hosting the Alumni Career Panel on September 20th, 5pm - 7pm at Highland Hall Event Centre.

This insightful and inspiring event is tailored exclusively for political science undergraduates! Our upcoming event brings together a distinguished panel of esteemed alumni who have carved their career paths inspired by their political science undergraduate experience at UTSC.

The event will include a panel discussion in which our accomplished alumni will share their invaluable experiences, anecdotes, and expert insights, shedding light on the diverse range of career opportunities available to political science graduates.  We will also celebrate the outstanding achievements of our recent graduates and current undergraduate students.

Our panellists are:

  • Robert Onley - Founder and CEO, NotaryPro Technologies Inc.
  • Scott Chapman – Manager, Elections Markham (City of Markham)
  • Patrick Schnurbusch – Data Analyst, Conservative Party of Canada

Daniela  Spagnuolo is a Policy Advisor with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, where she works on municipal housing, homelessness, health, and social policy. Daniela is an experienced researcher, community organizer, and event planner. Her research experience focuses on food policy, sexual and reproductive health rights, and municipal governance. Daniela received her undergraduate degree in International Development Studies and Political Science from the University of Toronto Scarborough and holds a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration from Toronto Metropolitan University.

Robert Onley is the founder and CEO of NotaryPro Technologies Inc., Canada's leading online notary public and document creation platform. After graduating from UTSC in 2009 (B.A. Hons., Political Science), Robert attended the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctor degree in 2012. Following law school, Robert worked at Global Affairs Canada before entering private legal practice as a corporate litigator. While practicing law, Robert started a side hustle offering notary public services, which grew into NotaryPro. Robert lives in Whitby with his wife and four children.

Patrick Reza Schnurbusch is an accomplished data analyst with a passion for elections and an established vision for data science that was fostered at the University of Toronto. Providing a high standard of technical services alongside specialized quantitative research work, his ability to analyze data and implement new techniques in his workflow has contributed to many national campaigns. He encourages, teaches, and guides other political science students considering a career in data science or tech through career mentorship and live-code tutoring.

Scott Chapman is the Manager of Elections Markham – the independent non-partisan division of the City of Markham responsible for delivering elections for Markham’s City Council and local school board trustees. Scott graduated from the UofT in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political Science, Public Law, and Sociology. Since joining the City in 2018, Scott has held multiple positions within Markham’s Legislative Services Department, contributing to policy development initiatives and administration in areas such as municipal elections, council and committee services, access and privacy, corporate information management, corporate communications, and accessible customer service. Leading one of North America’s largest and longest-running online voting programs, Scott is passionate about delivering inclusive and transparent public services through multi-platform and digitally accessible service options, leveraging technology to streamline service delivery, drive civic engagement, and enhance customer experiences.

 

From public service to campaign management, policy analysis to diplomacy, they will explore the multifaceted dimensions of the field and offer valuable advice for aspiring professionals.
