What we gain by tackling climate change

Economists have long been interested in the costs and benefits of slowing climate change. This talk will outline how they have traditionally conducted these analyses and outline the new empirical evidence on the socio-economic impacts of climate change, and the implications of this research for climate change policy.

Bio

Dr. Nicholas Rivers, Canada Research Chair in Climate and Energy Policy, is developing and using economic models to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of various environmental policies. He is focusing on estimating the costs associated with policies that are designed to reduce Canada’s emissions of greenhouse gases and to promote renewable sources of electricity.
