To be eligible to join the UTSC Chapter of Psi Chi, you must meet ALL of the requirements detailed below. These eligibility requirements are set by Psi Chi International and are solidified in our Chapter’s constitution, so they cannot be waived for any reason.

After applying, and if you meet the requirements below, you will be invited to join our chapter. To complete your membership, you will then be asked to pay a one-time life membership fee of $55 USD (approximately $75 CAD, as of May 3, 2023) which will complete your membership and unlock access to the range of benefits. You will also be invited to the annual induction ceremony for our chapter in the winter term. You will receive more information about the induction ceremony after successfully joining our chapter.

 

1. PROGRAMS OF ELIGIBLE STUDY

-You must be a currently active and registered student whose primary university is the University of Toronto Scarborough. We cannot currently accept students whose primary affiliation is at the St. George or Mississauga campuses.

-You must currently be in a Psychology program (Specialist, Major, Minor, MA, or PhD) or Mental Health Studies program (Specialist or Major).

 

2. COURSE REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 2.5 full credits must have been completed  to be considered for admission. Please make sure that these courses have been completed (NOT in progress) before you apply.

a. 1.0 credits of Introductory Psychology (PSYA01, PSYA02)

b. 0.5 credits of Psychology Research Methods (PSYB01, PSYB04, or PSYB70)

c. 0.5 credits of any B-level or C-level PSY course (for example, PSYB07, PSYB32, PSYC08, PSYC62)

d. 0.5 credits of any C-level PSY course (for example, PSYC21, PSYC50)

 

3. PROGRAM GPA REQUIREMENT

Psi Chi International accepts students who have GPAs in the top 35% of the students in their year. Currently, you must hold an average GPA of at least 3.0 in all of your PSY courses to be eligible for membership.

4. CUMULATIVE GPA REQUIREMENT

Psi Chi International accepts students who have GPAs in the top 35% of the students in their year. Currently, you must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all courses you have taken at U of T.

  • Example 1: Looking at her PSY courses only, Tania has an average GPA of 2.9. Looking at all of her U of T courses, Tania has a cumulative GPA of 3.1. Tania would not be eligible for Psi Chi membership at this time because she does not meet the PSY GPA requirement.
  • Example 2: Looking at his PSY courses only, Geremy has an average GPA of 3.3. Looking at all of his U of T courses, Geremy has a cumulative GPA of 2.7. Geremy would not be eligible for Psi Chi membership at this time because he does not meet the cumulative GPA requirement.
  • Example 3: Looking at her PSY courses only, Labna has an average GPA of 3.2. Looking at all of her U of T courses, Labna has a cumulative GPA of 3.1. If she meets the course requirements described above, Labna would be eligible for Psi Chi membership because she meets both the PSY and GPA requirements.

 

5. TRANSFER STUDENTS

Transfer students must have completed all of the course requirements listed above in “Course Requirements”, either at UTSC or at their previous institution(s). Transfer students must have completed at least one term of coursework at UTSC, including at least one course in PSY, in order to establish a UTSC cumulative GPA and a UTSC PSY GPA.
