Dave Ireland

He is a storyteller and an agent of change. Dave lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with his wife and two teenage daughters. He currently works for a coalition of environmental non-profit organizations in Atlantic Canada with the shared goal to protect ocean biodiversity. He holds a B.Sc. in biology from Mount Allison University and an M.Sc. in ecology from Trent. Dave sits on a variety of boards and committees on the regional, national, and international scale to assist communities to achieve their conservation goals. Previously, Dave was the Managing Director, of Biodiversity at the Royal Ontario Museum where he helped produce natural history exhibitions, galleries, programs, and research projects. He was also the Senior Curator, of Environment at the Toronto Zoo, and has experience as a wildlife biologist, university instructor, and tree planter. He co-founded and directed the Environmental Visual Communication graduate program at Fleming College which teaches students how to market nature conservation to our ever-changing and diverse audiences. Mostly, Dave enjoys spending time with family and friends by the ocean: walking, hiking, swimming, and surfing.

Working at the intersection of science, policy, and public engagement for over 20 years, Dave Ireland is a leader in biodiversity conservation. Dave will tell 5 stories spanning his experiences from Algonquin Park to Toronto to Atlantic Canada. He will, hopefully, inspire you to see work opportunities outside academia as gratifying and desperately needed.
