Waste Reduction Week
Waste Reduction Week is an annual week of events hosted by the Sustainability Office for our community to focus on the way we use our resources and reflect on how to cut down on waste. This year we focus on household waste, plastics and packaging, and food. With events like the Free Store pop-up, a litter cleanup, decorating reusable tumblers, and crocheting a grocery market bag - the week lets students explore different ways to cut down on personal waste, on and off campus.
Monday: Regenesis Collaboration - Free-store Pop-up with Utensil Kit Making
Stop by BV Hallway to reclaim used and new items from our student body with Regenesis’ Free Store and the UTSC Sustainability Office. This Free Store pop-up will allow you to take items such as household appliances and kitchenware, to board games and clothes all for free! While you're here, create your own cutlery kits to replace the disposable cutlery on-campus and off-campus. Just take a pouch and pick the utensils that speak to you to create your own kit.

Tuesday: Litter Clean-up
Join the UTSC Sustainability Office in our litter cleanup at Morningside Park and stop waste in its tracks. Every day, millions of plastics and other waste slowly make their way into our oceans and water ways. Help us do our part in stopping waste from making this journey in our very own backyard! Our biggest waste picker will have some great things in store for them with prizes and giveaways.

Wednesday: Crochet Produce Bags
Cut the waste when you go grocery shopping by creating your own reusable produce bag. All crochet levels are welcome! This workshop comes with your own crochet kit for this project as well as a guided lesson from @daryacrochetlife on Instagram.

Thursday: Tumbler Decorating
Decorate your own tumbler and cut waste from single use cups! Did you know when you bring your own cup to the coffee shops on campus you get a discount? Well, it's time to take advantage of it and bring your own cup to help the environment and your wallet. In this workshop, you can customize your own travel cup for hot or cold drinks using custom stickers and paints. This joint event, hosted by the Sustainability Office and International Student Centre, will be providing one tumbler per registrant to decorate. Registrants can also bring their own decorations!
