UTSC Alumna Wins 2004 Pfizer Award for Emerging Arts Managers

The 2004 third-annual national Pfizer Award for Emerging Arts Managers was awarded on Nov. 18, 2004 to UTSC arts management co-op alumna (Hon. B.A., 0T2) Merika Ramundo. The award recognized her talents and contributions to Toronto’s Soulpepper Theatre Company and the arts in general. Criteria for the award includes two to five years of arts management work experience in the cultural sector, outstanding volunteerism and entrepreneurial skills.Award jurors chose Ramundo for her passion and commitment to the cultural sector in Canada and for her ability and drive to further enhance development in the arts. “Ramundo was an outstanding student,? says UTSC professor Alan Stanbridge. “Her commitment to theatre education for young people is unwavering.?Ramundo is Soulpepper’s education manager and works as an independent arts education consultant. As a guest speaker at UTSC’s Perspectives Series in Arts Education, 2004, Ramundo displayed the depth of her commitment by sharing her inspirational experiences and goals (including Soulpepper’s ongoing collaboration with De-ba-jeh-mu-jig Theatre Group on Manitoulin Island) with students.The Pfizer award ceremony was held at the Association of Cultural Executives’ (ACE) annual general meeting in Toronto.
