Research: Perception and cognition
Central problem: Psychology of Representation:
Pictures and non-literal representation

My research interests include contour, line and figure-ground perception, including models of edge perception and outline perception. These apply to vision and touch. The models have relevance to shape-from-shadow perception and perspective geometry. I am also interested in literal and figurative communication, notably metaphor's relation to simile, theory of aptness, and the use of symbols.
