Feb 13 05 Update

I’ve tried to organize my old work last week. From the foundation course till now, I’ve got various kinds of artwork such as sketching, ideas and basic material from my foundation year. Paintings, drawings and sculptures from my B level courses. Websites, videos, animations and graphics works from my New Media program. Performances, abstract Photographs and Photogram from my C and D level courses.

Since my works are quite different and ranges in various formats, the hardest thing for the storyboard is to find a way to link or group all these works together. I am working on drafting and brainstorm at the moment to try to link my old work with their similarities. (e.g. color, shape, form, media etc)

My first draft storyboard will be completed during this reading week.

On the other hand, I am also looking into some montage artists. I know a few pioneer artist who started montage; however, their movies are mostly in Black and White and their style is quite old. Therefore, I still continue to look for some contemporary montage artists such as Peter Compus and Wong Kar Wai.

I will hand in my final proposal one week after reading week.

Thanks, Kendy. Your dilemma reminds me of the importance for students to build an online portfolio early on in their academic career so that they could pull the strands and connections together in a more effective way. I think if you find a suitable conceptual framework first (which I think you are doing), then it would be far easier to pull your diverse works together.

I recommend that you look at the works of Lev Manovich for some inspiration:
