Alpha v2 - attachment

I am unable to upload my file here, the server keeps on encountering an error. I will bring a CD-ROM tomorrow.

Alpha v2

Hello,

I have finished a functional alpha, to run, select either of the following files: alpha_v2_projector (mac), alpha_v2.exe (pc) or alpha_v2.swf (mac/pc.)

This version includes:

1) Home Screen:
Select a chapter to begin. The user can return to the main screen at anytime by pressing the home (Accueil) button.

2) Unite 1.0:
Instruction Text/Overview. The lettering in orange is an example of a Glossary term, where clicking on the term brings the user to the glossary page.

3) Unite 1.1: Arrange the words
The user will listen to a conversation and will place the provided words in the corresponding boxes.
Where "mot 1" goes with the first area, and "mot 2" goes in the second, and so on.

4) Unite 1.2: Fill in the blanks
The user will listen to a conversation and will fill in the blank with the corresponding word as heard. The user's entry will either result in "Correct" or "No, that is not correct, try again." The user will be given three attempts before an explanation/further help is offered, if answered incorrectly all three times.
The correct answers are "réponse 1, réponse 2, réponse 3..."

5) Unite 1.3: True or False
The user will listen to a conversation, and will answer a series of questions to test their comprehension.
The correct answers are "True, False, False, True"

4) Unite 1.4: Multiple Choice
The user will listen to a conversation and will answer multiple choice questions, taken from the conversation/readings.
The correct answers are marked with an asterix

5) Glossary:
User's will be able to access the Glossary from any page. The main Glossary page will display the entire Glossary, where clicking on the individual letters will only display the corresponding results.

6) Glossary A:
When the user clicks on the "A" or on a Glossary word that begins with "A", they will be taken to a page within the Glossary that only display's all of the Glossary terms begining with the letter A.

I will provide yourself and Professor McCrindle with these files on CD-ROM...

Update Nov 4th

I have studied the French Complete Course for further insight into French CD-ROM learning/development market.

This product has sold over 2 million copies and offers 40 lessons, detailed explanations, quizzes, reviews and additional vocabulary. < http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/item.asp?Item=978140002003&Catalog=Books&Lang=en&Section=books&zxac=1 >

However, it too turned out to be a disappointment: It came with three CD-ROM's which each were a list of .wav files, lacking any interface. The .wav files play in the default music player (iTunes in my case). The quizzes, reviews, lessons, vocabulary where all in the accompaning textbook.

I will now turn to emulate e-presentations/e-learning products. I have access to Skillsoft < www.skillsoft.com >, a leading e-learning provider, through my work outside of school. Skillsoft has reported earnings of $50.6 million for their second quarter this year.

I will hold Skillsoft to be a leader in e-learning, and will critique their strenghts and weakness, and will use the findings as a foundation for this project, while keeping in mind that Skillsoft is web based, and this project is CD-ROM based...

CD-ROM Study

Update:

I have analyzed all of the material that Professor McCrindle has provided me (textbooks and a number of accompagning CD-ROMS.)

I was my intent to look to them for critique and analyze the CD-Roms, to gather a comprehensive understanding of any lackings, whether poor interface, design, etc..area's to be improved upon, with New Media elements.

To my suprise the CD-ROM's offered no interface or interaction. They were simply a CD-ROM with a folder containing a list of .pdf files or .wav files.

I will now look outside of the French CD-ROM's for my study.

Side note, if this really is the French market right now, my project will hopefully challenge it.

Project Plan/Update

Attached is the project plan, as per my meeting with Professor McCrindle on Thursday, Oct 21st.

Proffesor McCrindle provided me with a series of textbooks and CD-Roms for critique/study/evaluation.

I will have an Alpha Cd-Rom for Professor McCrindle in 3 weeks, November 11th. The Alpha cd-rom will demonstrate the design and the functionality as described in the attached PP. Once sign-off is reached on the design, I will begin to plug in the acutal content, as provided by Professor McCrindle.
