Writing Retreat: Overcoming Procrastination

Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 at 3:30pm

Having trouble getting started or focusing on your writing assignment that's due soon?
Feeling isolated and unmotivated?

This series of four retreats might just be the difference you need. The goals of a writing retreat are to help you make progress on a writing assignment, learn writing strategies that can help with productivity, confidence, and motivation for future assignments, and just feel good about writing. What happens at a retreat? Basically, everybody writes, with some useful and supportive structures specific to students registered with AccessAbility. Here's what we'll do:

  • ·       Welcome, introduction, ground rules, ice breaker
  • ·       Writing warm-up and fun free-write (NOT about the assignment!) to help you feel positive and ready to write
  • ·       Sharing strategies for writing
Register for our series of Writing Retreats:
1.     Overcoming Procrastination - Wednesday, October 5th 3:30pm - 5:00pm
2.     Developing Productive Habits Wednesday, October 19th 3:30pm - 5:00pm
3.     Becoming a Confident Writer Wednesday, November 2nd 3:30pm - 5:00pm
4.     Building the Motivation to Write Wednesday, November 16th 3:30pm - 5:00pm

·       Individual goal-setting activity to emphasize focus and direction, so you know where you're going
·       3 x 20-minute writing sessions with a 5-minute break in between writing sessions
·       Everyone writes. Yes, everyone: students and writing instructors...
·       Concluding breakout groups, where we share the progress we've made and set out the next steps in our writing projects.

Bring everything you will need to write: ideas, outlines, drafts, reading notes, doodles, snacks and drinks
