The following Teaching Assistant positions are available in the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough for the Summer 2024 academic session. The jobs are posted in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 (Unit 1).

The Chair of the Department, Professor Natalie Rothman, will make any and all offers of employment on behalf of the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies.

In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 collective agreement, the rate of pay applicable for T.A. classifications UG/SGSI/SGSII will be $51.93 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently registered in a MA or PhD in History or a related discipline and possess good prior knowledge of the subject matter. An ability to communicate information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous teaching and/or marking experience.

Relevant Criterion

Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Duties

Teaching Assistants in this course will serve as both Tutorial Leader & Grading Assistants. They will be required to hold weekly in-person tutorials in the course, meet with students during regular office hours and respond to students’ inquiries in person and in writing. They will be required to grade and offer students detailed feedback on assignments, tests and exams as well as invigilate exams. Work as a TA in this course may involve course support services (such as updating course content and information on Quercus). They will be expected to engage with students with diverse needs and experiences in a professional and supportive manner that improves the learning experience for all students, and to foster an interactive and collaborative classroom dynamic. Other duties as determined by the supervisor.
