Professor Andrade earned her Ph.D. in Neurobiology and Behavior at Cornell University. Upon completion of her doctorate in 2000, she joined the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). A Canadian Research Chair in Integrative Behavioural Ecology, the goal of her research is to understand how the reproductive behaviours of males and females evolve through the interaction of sexual and natural selection in variable ecological contexts, and how this shapes individual phenotypes and population-level characteristics. Professor Andrade has received numerous teaching and research awards, most recently, recognized for her distinguished contributions to the field, by the Animal Behaviour Society, as well as being awarded UTSC’s Principal’s Research Award, & the Underground’s Professor of the Year (awarded to “Professors who have positively impacted students’ lives, either in the classroom or in a broader setting…”).
Professor Andrade begins her term as the Vice-Dean Faculty Affairs and Equity (UTSC) in January of 2017. Possessing a strong record of commitment to supporting her colleagues, she is a co-founder of Mead UTSC (Mentoring Excellence and Diversity at UTSC), a grassroots group aimed at providing mentorship opportunities and education about barriers to career progress for early-mid-career faculty in sciences. As the Vice-Dean, Professor Andrade will actively promote the hiring, retention and success of a diverse and inclusive faculty, and foster a positive and productive working environment for faculty at UTSC. In addition to her role in the VP Dean’s Office, Professor Andrade serves as a Research Associate Royal Ontario Museum, & Special (Associate) Graduate Faculty Member, Department of Zoology, University of Guelph, as well as teaching numerous undergraduate and graduate courses at both the UTSC and St. George campuses.
As the Vice-Dean Faculty Affairs & Equity, Professor Andrade advises on academic equity issues; faculty advancement, promotions, mentorship and recognition. The Vice-Dean also oversees all Academic HR matters - taking the lead on development of the annual faculty complement plans; selection and training of Dean's Assessors; oversight of workload policies; labour relations and grievances; as well as monitoring and addressing aspects of faculty demographics.
