October 8, 2019 - Crip Horizons: Disability Art Futurism

Sean Lee, Director of Programming at Tangled Art + Disability

Abstract: Radical. Disruptive. The Last Avant-Garde. The emergence of the Disability Arts movement has been pivotal to reframing our understanding of disability. Mobilizing art’s transformative possibility, Disability Art has brought with it political activism, agency and curatorial excellence that transcends the barriers of language to engender new aesthetic potentials.

Springing from Turner Prize-nominated artist Yinka Shonibare’s observation, we will explore just how disability, access and the last remaining avant garde movement have shaped our arts ecology.
