Prof. Paloma E.]. Villegas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. Her research focusses on the production of migrant illegalization, the effects of internal borders, and their links to gender and racialization. She is currently working on a book manuscript focusing on the experiences of Mexican migrants to Toronto. Among her teaching responsibilities are community-engaged courses focusing on migration in/and Scarborough.
October 17 - The State of Postsecondary Education and Immigration Status: A U.S./Canada comparison - Comparisons of the U.S. and Canadian immigration systems abound, particularly after the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. Rarely discussed, however, is the intersection between immigration systems and postsecondary institutions, particularly how they engage with undocumented or precariously documented migrants.
