UHIP Disenrollment

Are you an international student who is studying remotely outside of Ontario?  You may be eligible to dis-enroll from the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)! 

Studying outside of Canada

If you're an international student who has been charged for UHIP on your ACORN account and you are studying remotely for the Fall semester outside of Canada, you are eligible to dis-enroll from UHIP. The UHIP disenrollment period for Fall is October 1 to November 1, 2020.

Steps:

  1. Complete the dis-enrollment form available from the St. George campus UHIP Office website.
  2. Be prepared to wait a few weeks for your form to be processed.
  3. Check your ACORN account to ensure that your UHIP charge has moved to the Winter 2021 fees, and that the amount is changed from $720 to $480. (If your fees have been paid in full, you'll be issued a refund for $240; if you have outstanding fees, this amount will be credited to that balance)
  4. If you come to Canada before the end of the Fall semester, you must immediately get in touch with us (uhip@utsc.utoronto.ca)

Studying in Canada but outside Ontario

If you're an international student who has been charged for UHIP on your ACORN account and you are studying remotely for the Fall semester outside of Ontario OR you are covered by that province's health care plan, you are eligible to dis-enroll from UHIP.  The UHIP disenrollment deadline for a full Fall refund is October 15.  After that time, you can still apply, but you will be charged for September and October ($120).

Steps:

  1. Complete the Pre-approved Health Care Plan Form (OHIP) (PDF) and proof of your health coverage and email it to uhip.information@utoronto.ca
  2. Be prepared to wait a few weeks for your form to be processed.
  3. Check your ACORN account to ensure that your UHIP charge has moved to the Winter 2021 fees, and that the amount is changed from $720 to $480. (If your fees have been paid in full, you'll be issued a refund for $240; if you have outstanding fees, this amount will be credited to that balance)
  4. If you come to Canada before the end of the Fall semester, you must immediately get in touch with us (uhip@utsc.utoronto.ca)
