Student Managed Fund Workshop

Introduction

The UTSC Student Managed Fund is an innovative joint venture between the Department of Management and the UTSC Library Finance & Trading Lab. The Fund gives selected B.B.A. students an outstanding learning experience managing an investment fund. Reporting to the Board of Directors, made up of industry experts, alumni and faculty, students participate in all stages of the investment process, from research and pitching, to trading, to reporting and compliance. Students learn critical financial research, analysis and decision-making skills, effectively preparing them for the challenging and competitive world of capital markets.

The fund is currently supported by the Department of Management. The fund's inception size is $250,000, currently functioning as a virtual portfolio. The fund launched in Fall 2015.

Investment Policy Statement

The Statement of Investment Objective is to assist the Board of Directors and the Student Investment Committee in effectively supervising, monitoring, and evaluating the investment of the Fund. Its purpose is to describe formally how investment decisions are related to the plan’s goals and objectives, as well as the BoD’s strategic vision for the investment.
