Non-citizens have long worked for the US military. Held up as the most deserving immigrants while also suspected for their foreignness, so-called green card soldiers contribute to reproducing the US empire. Dr. Sofya Aptekar will discuss her new book Green Card Soldier: Between Model Immigrant and Security Threat, the immigrant experience of military labor and the uneasy intersection between the mammoth military and immigration systems in the US.
