Led by various multidisciplinary international artists that support the Doris McCarthy Gallery at the University of Toronto Scarborough, campers in the Visual Arts camp will be introduced to a variety of media including photography, drawing, painting and more, through a playful approach to viewing and making art. The Visual Arts camp promises to be a comprehensive program where campers have fun creating their own masterpieces!

Tuesday, August 2: Drawing and Cartooning with Heidi Cho and Morgan Sea 

Heidi Cho is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist. She self-publishes comics and zines about being a queer Korean navigating family and mental health. Her work has appeared in C Magazine, Shameless, and Peak Magazine. Morgan Sea is a Toronto-based cartoonist. Her practice often blends fantasy and queer theory to create trans-feminist comics, zines, and new media endeavours. 

Wednesday, August 3: Natural Found Object Sculptures with Scarbrite Collective 

Scarbrite is a Scarborough-based artist collective founded by Frannie Potts and Sylvie Stojanovski. Frannie Potts is a mural artist and workshop facilitator. Much of her public art meets at the intersection of whimsical and surreal, with brightly coloured figures and abstract backgrounds. Sylvie Stojanovski is a multidisciplinary artist and community organizer. Her creative work explores the myriad of relationships we have with the contemporary natural world. 

Thursday, August 4: Painting with Rajni Perera 

Rajni Perera was born in Sri Lanka in 1985 and lives and works in Toronto. She is a painter and sculptor who explores issues of hybridity, futurity, ancestorship, immigration identity/cultures, monsters and dream worlds. 

Friday, August 5: Cyanotypes with Leila Fatemi (rain activity: Geometric embroidery) 

Leila Fatemi is an emerging artist, curator and community arts worker whose work stems from her daily experiences as a visible minority and aims to contribute alternative narratives around ethnic representation in art. She works across media, including photography, ceramics, and embroidery.

Rachel MacFarlane is a visual artist that creates paper box models as both a starting point and observational place of reference to explore conditions of place through paintings.

Ebti Nabag is a portrait and documentary photographer that teams up with galleries and community organizations to deliver visual programs that provide opportunities for creative self- expression and aid in the development of identity.

Zhan Zhang creates a variety of projects ranging from paper jewelry to papercut illustrations. Zhan’s studio is based in Toronto where unique one-of-a kind decorative pieces are created.

Jalani Morgan an established Toronto based photographer, visual historian and current photo editor of West End Phoenix. Morgan is known for his editorial, documentary and gallery collected work both nationally and internationally.

Jabari Elliott is a Toronto based aerosol artist whose creations adorn the cultural landscape here and abroad. As an integral part of downtown Toronto's street-art community, he has been recognized for his artistry and praised by both street and fine art collectors worldwide.

Aman Sandhu oversees the Wave Art Fellowship, coordinating the mentorship team and educational curriculum. He has a passion for creating artistic opportunities for marginalized youth.

Raj Mann curates Wave Art Collective’s social media presence and serves as the conduit between the Wave team and the online world. Having run multiple youth camps, Raj has a passion for working with young artists to fuel their ambitions
