Use this application to keep any previous student loan received through OSAP interest free and non-repayable as you continue with your full-time studies. You use this application when you do not want to receive funding for the current or upcoming academic session. Students in a co-op program use this form when they are participating in a required co-op work term.
You are registered and studying on a full-time basis (or intending to). The minimum course load for full-time studies is 1.5 credits per semester or 1.0 credit if you are a student with a permanent disability.
A required co-op work term is also recognized by OSAP as full-time status.
You are not applying for OSAP funding for the current or upcoming academic, or you can’t apply for funding because of an academic or other type of restriction.
The easiest way to apply is by accessing the Interest Free Status application online after you login to your OSAP account. It only takes a few minutes to apply. Login and go to Start a new application.
Depending on your situation, you may have to do more than one application. For example, if you are on a work term that begins in January and is 8 months long, you will have to submit an application for Winter and a second one for the Summer.
You can apply for Interest Free Status 15 days before the start of the first day of classes of any semester. We recommend that you apply no later than the first week of the academic session.
You must submit your application no later than 21 days before the end of the academic session (the last day of the exam period). These are hard deadlines. No exceptions can be made.
