Absence Declaration in ACORN

The University of Toronto is continuing to address academic absences during COVID-19. Procedures are subject to change as new information becomes available. We encourage students to stay home if they feel unwell and continue to check public health advisories and the University of Toronto’s website.

If you are absent from class or unable to complete any other term work, you are responsible for contacting your instructor(s) to request accommodation. You should also use the ACORN Absence Declaration Tool if you miss academic activity for any reason (e.g. COVID, other illness or injury, family situation) and require consideration for missed academic work.

If you are filing a petition for a deferred exam, use the ACORN Absence Declaration Tool as your supporting documents. You may submit additional documents if you feel they support your petition.

The tool can be found in the ACORN Profile and Settings menu. The University will use this information in considering academic accommodation and to monitor overall absences. See steps below:

  1. Submit a petition on eService as soon you miss a final exam.
  2. Declare absence using the Absence Declaration tool on ACORN.
  3. Submit supporting documents (if applicable) to the UTSC Petitions Office.
  4. Contact an Academic & Learning Strategist at AA&CC if you need support with your petition.
  5. Missed an Already Deferred Exam? Visit our website for instructions.

For additional petition submission procedures and supporting documentation, please see petitions.
