The launch of Colopal!

What is Colopal?

Colopal is a photo sharing app. It is a free app that allows interaction with your friends by drawing onto the photos that friends have posted. You can post a picture with your own drawing and other users add their drawings. The drawings come up one by one, and increases as your friends add drawings.

With Colopal you can do things like:

  • Take a photo with the camera or import photos from your photo library to upload
  • Add up to a maximum of five drawings onto your photo and upload
  • Your feed shows your and your friends’ photos with the added drawings
  • Select any photo on your feed and add your drawings onto them

Who started it?

It all started when two men named Ridney Wijesinghe and Masatoshi Nishimura were talking about what happens when you are bored in class and everyone starts to make fun of the professor on their phones? That is when they came up with the collaborative doodling on top of a shared photo, now called Colopal!

Ridney and Masatoshi have been working on this app since December of 2012. Ridney said “we originally wanted to make an application that involves an augmented reality, which is where your device depicts you 2D and 3D objects onto what you see through camera. We considered making different apps involving AR and decided to drop them because we found some flaws and because we felt that it did not really provide a good user experience. After that we wanted our user to interact through drawings we kept the drawing function and came up with the current app (Colopal). Masatoshi came up with the idea to start a company and I decided to join him, and do it together simply because it seemed very interesting. I had never thought of something like this before and thinking about what we could do and what would become of it really excited me.”

What started off with a group of two men, they are now a group of 5 people working together. Masatoshi Nishimura, Adrian Marius, Dianne Khaye, Ridney Wijesinghe and Ayana Yamazaki (Left to Right)COLOPAL APP
